This was a project with lots of potential but it took an editor and director with a shared vision to translate the hours of source material into five episodes of gold.

Originally edited by the talented Monica Salazar, the pandemic interrupted post production and I was fortunate enough to take over. Nina Dobrev has always been one of my favorites so getting to edit her performance as well as this talented cast was an honor. Directed by Jennifer Cram on a tight (but expertly planned) shooting schedule, this film feels much bigger than the production budget. Kudos to Cassidy Lunnen for pulling it off. With a great cast, fresh director and experienced producer, this film is great fun.

Ambitious much? This project was crazy but so much fun. Editing an entire six-episode miniseries shot on location at numerous rodeos around Oklahoma was challenging but so rewarding. I loved digging into each bull riding and barrel racing scene as much I loved cutting the love story that buds and blossoms over the six episodes.

The spot came together quickly - preproduction took just two weeks and production was just one day, including only a couple hours with the star of the spot. Thankfully, the director got plenty of coverage and the spot came together in just a few days.
I enjoyed solving the little problems that cropped up during the edit and ultimately working with the client to get the end result they were looking for.

This three week project produced the launch video for the Pixel 6 phone. I got to work with a team of editors on the 52-minute presentation-style video, detailing the technical specifications of the device. But my favorite (solo) assignment was editing this earnest conversation between Marie Kondo and the google engineer who developed the live translation technology. The last line in the video is my favorite - “I think that the language barrier is getting smaller now”. That’s the simple yet profound takeaway from this conversation.

After a quick 24-hour shoot on location in Las Vegas, the creatives and I crafted these spots to showcase the different attractions at the Palazzo. Combining 4k footage with Super 8mm film gave these spots a unique and personal feel. Much of the 8mm film was taken between takes and gave us much more candid moments to weave together with the scripted shots.

I loved the challenges of this project - most of which proved to be my own preconceived ideas.
After some rough cuts went back and forth between me and director Maribeth Romslo, she decided to record a conversation between Haakon (Kena) and their mom. This proved to be a great idea as we could contrast the sweetness of that conversation with the flashy energy of the only drag show Maribeth was able to record before the pandemic started.
This is a true passion project and I’m so happy to be able to share it.

The director handed me a couple hours of personal, intimate footage from his shoot with Rashida Jones and asked me to make something of it. I chose to showcase both her humor and high fashion in a way I’d never seen in other videos.

Multiple families, each with multiple vignettes, meant there were lots of choices to make in the edit. We did just that over the course of two weeks, trying hundreds of combinations of scenes with dozens of music choices. We fell in love with some of the families and ultimately made additional 0:15s to further showcase the amazing footage.

After an exhaustive planning phase, I was tapped to edit the final Sperry Odyssey Project, this one following two tattoo artists as they learned about traditional Māori culture in New Zealand. In two short weeks, we crafted a 5+ minute video that weaved together the highlights of Eva and Rob’s three-day journey.
Production Company - Funny Or Die
Director / Writer: Lauryn Kahn
Producer: Alex Richanbach
One of the first videos I cut for Funny Or Die was this gem starring Jake Johnson, Lizzie Caplan, Rob Riggle and Kathryn Hahn. Most of the script was ad-libbed while filming which presented audio overlapping challenges and non-existent alt takes with clean reads. Limitations aside, the actors were just producing gold on every take so the edit ended up being essentially the best 3-4 bits, strung together.

Working on a project for the Will Rogers Foundation meant I also got to work on a project with John Cena, who incidentally was in a little movie called The Marine back in 2006, which I got to watch at my first job working in the tape room of a movie trailer edit house. Full circle. Now I got to edit takes of him raising awareness for an important cause.
